Who it's for
Field technicians measuring carbon plots in remote areas, for conservation organisations.
My role
Needs analysis, instructional strategy, user experience and the custom web app.
Tools
The challenge
Landowners are paid to protect forests based on how much carbon the trees store. That value depends on technicians measuring each tree correctly.
You can't learn to measure a forest by clicking through slides, and one bad dataset can invalidate a whole assessment.
The solution
Learn the method
A short Rise section explains carbon value and the 10 × 10 metre plot method.
Practise in the app
Learners log tree height and diameter in the same app they will use, with instant feedback.
Take it to the field
The app works offline on a phone and exports the data as CSV, JSON and photos.
The result
- Training and the real work tool in one place.
- A simple interface designed for technicians with little technical background.
- A reusable model for other field data-collection jobs.
